Introduction to Social Permaculture

Context is everything. While the above description provides a general overview of the content of this workshop, I’d love to adapt it to your local community to make it as useful as possible. I’m also committed to using training opportunities to build facilitation capacity in local communities, and therefore prefer to co-facilitate with local experts – particularly people of color and women. Have an idea about how you’d like me to adapt this training to your community? Let me know!

The solutions for a better world are all around us. Yet all too often, we can’t seem to all get on the same page to implement them. We’re plagued by self-doubt and interpersonal conflict. And of course, there’s never enough money to go around.

In an era of turbulent social change, we need tangible, effective solutions now more than ever. Fortunately, permaculture design – already transforming agricultural systems the world over – can provide us with a powerful framework to catalyze our existing work in healing communities.

Join us in this workshop as we learn to solve social problems like nature. We’ll uncover age-old practices, apply ecological insights, and learn to take a design approach in order to break through our existing challenges. This workshop is appropriate for both self-identified permaculturalists and those who have never heard the term – all are welcome!

Workshop topics may include:

  • Putting a social lens on the ethics, principles and design process of permaculture
  • Introduction to pattern languages
  • Case studies of social permaculture in action
  • Unlocking the transformative power of narrative
  • Finding the “edge of change” in your personal and group work
  • The conditions for healthy community
