Economics after Capitalism

Context is everything. While the following description gives a general overview of the content of this workshop, I believe that truly meaningful training is adapted to your local culture and situation. In addition, I am fully committed to using my training opportunities to build facilitation capacity in local communities, and therefore prefer to co-facilitate with local experts – particularly people of color and women. Have an idea about how you’d like me to adapt this training to your community? Let me know!

Capital. Currency. Dollars. In daily use, we often use these terms interchangeably – but viewed through an ecological lens, they can take on very different meanings. In this workshop, we’ll unpack mainstream economic thinking as well as our own internalized assumptions about capitalism and money. In the process, we’ll begin to sketch the outlines of a different economics – one centered around local control, restoring capital, and long-term thinking. We’ll explore current business models that heal ecosystems and communities while remaining financially sustainable, and look for opportunities for transitioning our own local businesses and economies towards a more regenerative model.

Workshop topics may include:

  • Fundamentals of ecological economics
  • Local currency design
  • Social Enterprise principles
  • Business Model Canvas
  • Capital Analysis
  • Employee Ownership
